Baatein Zindagi Ki — a family preparedness conversation

Some of the most important family conversations are the ones we keep postponing.

Ninety minutes, in person. Not a talk, and nothing is being sold in the room.

WHAT HAPPENS

An expert conversation, twenty minutes — "The essential things every family should keep in one place." Led by a lawyer or financial planner. Family documents, nominee and financial information, insurance, key contacts, digital accounts, and the wishes a family should know in advance.

Conversation circles, thirty minutes, in small groups: · What would your family struggle to find today? · Which conversations do we keep postponing? · What should every family know in advance?

The rest of the time is tea and each other.

WHAT YOU TAKE HOME

The Mahaprayaan Family Preparedness Checklist — a practical thing to fill in at your own table, not a brochure.

WHO IT IS FOR

Thirty to forty people. Mostly 55 and above, and adult children are very welcome — in fact bring one. Most of what gets postponed is postponed between exactly those two people.

Venue is being confirmed and will be posted here. Answer below so we know the numbers.

How do you start this with a parent who will not have it?

Mine changes the subject with a joke every time. I am not asking about paperwork — I am asking how people actually open this.

Families almost never disagree about the medicine

They disagree about what he would have wanted, and they disagree loudest when nobody ever asked him.

The conversation is not morbid. Not having it is what turns out to be cruel.

Why do we prepare for every stage of life except its ending?

We plan for school, careers, weddings, retirement — we rehearse almost everything. Yet the one certainty we all share is the one we rarely name.

Is it fear? Superstition? Or simply that no one ever taught us how to begin?

Tell us honestly: has your family ever had this conversation — and what made it possible, or what made it impossible?

That is the beginning. You have seen every one of the posts.
